Providing the highest “quality” testing services to our customers is our top priority. So, what exactly is “quality”?

When I started this business in 1992, I simply defined quality as performing a test as precisely as possible to the test standard, using calibrated instruments. Calibrating instruments either internally or at outside labs is traceable to NIST standards and are performed annually at a minimum. If a non-conformance occurred due to our methods or instrument failure, the test was repeated. Customer satisfaction was and continues to be paramount.

As the business has grown and staff has been added, additional measures of “quality” have been addressed, primarily with training. Yarmouth Research has the most stringent training program for technicians in this industry. Performing fugitive emission readings, controlling flame temperatures in a fire test, and general test setups often contain many nuances that can greatly affect the results of a test. Our technician certification program consists of a documented process of test observations, written exams of the test standards, and supervised tests before a technician is certified to perform tests on their own. This process can take over a year to accomplish.

While our Quality Manual is striving to comply with ISO 17025, we are not currently certified. It is something that we are pursuing for the near future. While we could hire a firm to come in and pay them to get us certified, if it is not done with absolute integrity, like everything else at Yarmouth Research, it is not something we will do. I’m sure we all know of ISO 9001 certified manufacturers that sell products that are not considered to be of high quality.

The guarantee that all our tests are performed accurately and with the highest integrity is ensured by the face that my name and Professional Engineering stamp goes on every report. At Yarmouth Research, we fully understand the criticality of providing accurate test results for a marketing and purchasing perspective, but also, more importantly, for a safety of all the users of these products in the field.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Matt Wasielewski, PE
President and General Manager
